State 48ers Win Scottsdale City League Sand Volleyball Championship

SCOTTSDALE – A firm sponsored team made up of State 48 Law Firm employees and friends took home the bacon in the City of Scottsdale Sand Volleyball League held at Indian School Park this Fall, culminating in a wild playoff sprint on December 9, 2021.

With a less than impressive in-league record, leading the league in forfeits due to work conflicts, the team still managed to take home the trophy… and the t-shirts. The first-year squad overcame a low seed and early playoff tournament set back. Rallying through loser’s bracket to claim the city title.

Entering the final day of tournament play, State 48 needed to win five straight matches to claim the championship. They did just that, even after losing star setter Dana Holt in the championship match.

Among the State 48ers on the squad were Holt, Robbie Hendricks, Lee Best, and Bryce Johnson, and even an appearance from attorney Jillian Hansen.

The team would like to thank the City of Scottsdale for continuing to coordinate recreational sports leagues and for making this team of retired athletes feel like spring chickens.
